Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, also known as AKA, was a South African rapper who rose to fame after the release of his single “Victory Lap” from his debut studio album, Altar Ego in 2010. He was born and raised in Cape Town and was a well-known figure in the South African music industry.
Tragically, on February 10th, 2023, AKA was shot and killed in Durban. The 35-year-old rapper was in the city for a performance and had been leaving a restaurant on Florida Road with an unidentified man when they were both shot at by unknown assailants.
AKA had won multiple awards throughout his career, including the Best Male Artist and Best Hip Hop Artist awards at the South African Music Awards. He was also known for his collaborations with other well-known artists in the industry, such as Burna Boy and Diamond Platnumz.
